Health Outreach Prevention Education, Inc. Celebrates World AIDS Day
Tulsa, OK- On a day dedicated to encouraging HIV/AIDS prevention, a Tulsa non-profit wants Tulsans to get familiar with their HIV status. More than 4,600 people in Oklahoma are known to be living with HIV/AIDS, but the true number is likely greater, as one in eight people who have the disease aren’t aware they are positive for HIV.
Health Outreach Prevention Education, Inc., known as H.O.P.E., is offering FREE HIV testing on World AIDS Day, Saturday, December 1st at multiple locations.
Mobile Testing Van at Fuel 66
The mobile testing van will be offering free testing from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM at Fuel 66, 2439 E 11th St, Tulsa, OK 74104.
Stop by and get tested, enjoy food from local food trucks, & have a libation from the Fuel 66 bar.
Free Testing at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center
Staff will be out at OKEQ from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 621 E 4th St in Downtown Tulsa.
Mobile Testing Van at The ReVue
The mobile testing van will be offering free testing from 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM at The ReVue, 822 S Sheridan Rd, Tulsa, OK 74112.
- The organization says 50,000 new cases of HIV/AIDS are reported each year.
- The OSDH 2014 HIV/AIDS Profile indicates that over the past 5 years there has been an overall upward trend in newly diagnosed HIV cases.
- Of these cases, ages 13-29 had the highest number (128) and accounts for (41.2%). When combined with age 30-39 (73), total (201),
- The Tulsa MSA accounted for 33.8% (105) of the new HIV cases. This rate was 10.8 cases per 100,000, approximately 1.4 times higher than the state rate (8.0 per 100,000).

The organization provides outreach and clinic services focused on HIV, sexually transmitted diseases and Hepatitis C (HCV). H.O.P.E offers comprehensive prevention education, risk reduction and safe sex supplies, counseling, testing and for those who test positive, referrals to medical care and social services.
