Hey y’all! I’m Hana. While I officially started with H.O.P.E in August of 2021, I have been volunteering with the organization for a lot longer.
Harm reduction is my passion. I started working in the field after years of drug use and recovery. Harm reduction is the only practice of taking care of people who use drugs that makes sense to me.
I’m deeply passionate about keeping my friends alive and I am only alive because of my friends practicing harm reduction. I’m also a hepatitis C and overdose survivor so harm reduction is a natural fit for me.
When it comes to STIs, I want everyone to know that while testing is obviously important, prevention is too. Wear a condom!
Some of my favorite resources to share are:
Fighting for Space by Travis Lupick
Undoing Drugs by Maia Szalavitz
Drug Use For Grownups by Dr. Carl Hart
Narcotica Podcast
Crackdown Podcast
My favorite spots in Tulsa are:
Whittier Bar, Oxley Nature Center, Chandler Park, under the 21st Street bridge where Rumblefish was filmed and the Wednesday night Food Not Bombs/SHOTS outreach spot is.
My go-to karaoke song:
I’m terrified of karaoke, but if I wasn’t… “Mama Tried” by Merle Haggard OR “It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay” by Whitney Houston.
If I were a type of shoe, I would be:
Steel toed Doc Marten work boots, duh.
